How often do you explore outside your own environment? I’m not talking about a vacation to another country or state, but just visiting a different locale. Are you an urbanite, suburbanite, or a rustic?
I find it interesting that the words reserved for people who live in developed areas have a more sophisticated ring to them than the term for those who live in wide-open spaces. Each has its charm and attracts people for different reasons. Today I found myself “in town,” the urban area closest to our home. This is where we access the amenities of grocery stores, retail stores, banks, and other conveniences. On a day like today, a sunny, warm day in June, it feels at least 5+ degrees warmer in the “city” than the “country.” The concrete jungle radiates heat, and the rows of buildings block the cooling breeze.
Down on the farm, as I sat in the shade provided by trees that predate the Revolutionary War (yes, some are that old), enjoying the cool breeze, I don’t envy those who choose city life. This is the life for me. (Romans 14:19)
