Young minds, impressionable minds, have an excuse for dealing in absolutes. They have yet to realize we have to be flexible and less rigid in our thinking with many ideas in this world.
I was shocked when my 5-year-old grandson “A” informed me that he didn’t want to visit the Safari Park because there might be pigs and they eat people. After getting a brief background on where he got this information, I carefully explained that pigs are omnivores but don’t actively prey on humans as a food source. He also thought that a Siberian Husky and wolf were interchangeable, so to him a Husky is a predator and a dangerous dog. Information needs to be shared, but qualified so as not to be confused as an absolute with no explanation as to the situation or the environment.
There are so many variables that affect all we do that it can be difficult to navigate life. Remember to be sensitive to each other’s feelings, practice compassion, grace, and sympathy. Love is the only absolute. (Malachi 3:6)
