Engaging our mind should be a never-ending adventure and joy. We should emulate children and soak up as much knowledge and information as we can. Our brain is a muscle that needs exercise like the others in our body, or it will atrophy.
It takes very little to exercise our minds, but the value we receive is immense. If you’ve always used your brain for higher functions (data, science, medicine, engineering), shift and begin a hobby that requires you to use your gray matter in a more artistic way—art or literature. If you’ve been engaged in the liberal arts field, you might want to explore an area that challenges you in the hard sciences, computer, and math areas when searching out a hobby, part-time job, career switch, or volunteer gig. If you’re comfortable where you’ve always been, continue on that path, but please do continue to expand your horizons. (Proverbs 1:5)
There’s no end to this life we’re blessed to live until we leave it behind. We have so much to learn and share. Is one of your goals this year learning something new? I’m excited for you to begin your new journey of growth.
p.s. I’m working on my website. Sometimes it’s a joy, and other times it’s a struggle, but I learn something new every day.
