Have you ever encountered that person who steps out and takes a moment to compliment you? A person you know or you’ve never met might say to you, “Your hair is beautiful.” Maybe they stop you and say, “That was a great presentation.” These are seemingly innocuous comments, but sometimes they’re just what you need to hear today.
Actions do speak louder than words, but sometimes we just need verbal confirmation; actions aren’t always enough. Words matter as do their intent. We thrive on praise or confirmation; I think this is just how we’re programmed. We can continue on our chosen paths without it, but I believe we can achieve more knowing what we do is meaningful to someone else. Whether you create and serve for “an audience of one,” or because of a passion, approval from peers, trusted friends, or a mentor, provides needed motivation to continue on the path you’ve chosen.
Reach out today and acknowledge someone who makes an impact on your life or just seems to shine a little brighter. The teacher who devotes countless hours to create lessons to engage her students. The podcaster who’s never sure of an audience. The store clerk who bags your purchases. There are innumerable people who make a difference every day that might be able to do just that much more with a bit of encouragement. (Galatians 5:22-23)
