As we expand our understanding of mindfulness, we need to take into account all of our senses (we explored these in January). Think about all eight of your senses and how you can engage them to enhance your appreciation of the world.
Take a moment where you are and engage your senses. Think about how you perceive your environment by taste (if you’re able). What sounds do you hear? What feelings do they stir in you? What do you smell? Do those scents spark any memories? What do you see? Is the sun bright or are you looking at a dark night sky watching the stars? What can you touch? Is it soft, hard, or is there mist in the air coating your skin? Are you moving through your world and taking it all in, processing everything around you? Are you balanced, whether you’re sitting or standing? Do you feel secure in your current space and position? Do you feel at peace? Are you calm?
Check-in through each of your senses as you meditate, pray, or just to clear your mind. It’s an easy way to reset, relax, or refocus. (Psalms 48:9)
