Everyone has a family. Wait…there’s your biological family, the two, male and female, that physically created you. We have no control over this family. Yet, much of what makes us who we are is a product of this family. Our biological being, our genetic composition. This body we inhabit, of which we have been given guardianship, was created for us by other people who are considered family. There are others who share common genetics through blood links to our biological parents; they are part of your family as well as children that you may create. Family.
Then there is the family you make, build. The family you gather together in love, friendship, commitment. This is the family of your heart that doesn’t necessarily share genes, but is the family you have created. This is a family united by a bond of love, oftentimes forged through times of difficulty, yet sometimes just by years of supporting each other through good times and bad times.
Family. There is no greater gift than the love and support of family. We need them through good times and through hard times—never doubt it. (Romans 14:7)
Reach out today to that family member you’ve been meaning to contact. They probably need your love and support. You may need to make the call more than they need to hear from you.
