We think of a holiday as sanctioned time away from work, religious celebrations, federal and state revelries. They’re just another day on the calendar that we either have to plan family events or “yay” we don’t have to go to work. Sometimes we look forward to them (hey, we get a day off from work), sometimes they’re stressful because of expectations. The British use “holiday” in place of vacation as a day spent away from work or school. Take a holiday just to appreciate life.
Time moves more quickly than you think. Take time to visit a local site that you never seem to find the time to explore. If they’re close, drive to the beach or the mountains for the day. Coordinate your time off with a friend that you haven’t seen in a while. Work on a craft, hobby, or home project that you’ve been wanting to start or finish. This day is yours to plan in whatever way brings you peace, joy, and refreshment. These days of appreciation are an important part of balancing your life. (Proverbs 17:22)
There are so many things to do and see. Set aside some time to enjoy your life, appreciate the world around you. There’s a lot to see and experience out there, even in your own “backyard.”
