What is it about twinkle lights, candle lights, and patio lights with which we festoon our homes and outdoor spaces? It’s not just during the winter holiday season that we drape our homes in lights, but we find reasons to do so throughout the year. A light to guide the way home.
There’s something comforting about warm light glowing from our home’s windows in the dark. It’s a sense of welcome, safety, and rest. There’s the idea that someone cared enough to see to your comfort, anticipating your return home. Even if you’re the one who turned on those lights, you get to enjoy that sense of well-being they produce.
All of the specialty lighting gives me a feeling of happiness and adds a festive feel wherever I am. It’s so easy to add solar lighting to our yards, patio string lights on decks, and just hang a few strands of twinkle lights along the headboard that are on a timer. Ultimately, what feeling springs in your heart when you see the beacon of warmth lighting your way home? What thoughts engage you when you’re lounging under your patio lights, peering into the darkness beyond?
Whatever the light means to you, buy a set of those string lights and drape them where you can enjoy them the most. (John 8:12)
