With age comes wisdom. Well, not necessarily. As a senior in high school, one of my teachers made a statement that an impact on me that I have tried to use throughout my life. “A wise person learns from other people’s mistakes.” I’ve thought about this often throughout my life and tried to live by it. Just as well grow in wisdom, our capacity to love grows and matures. While we appreciate the openness of children to just love, we need to mature in our capacity to extend love to others.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. (1 Corinthians 13:11)
Sometimes it can be stressful, maybe even difficult, to see beyond political, religious, social, and cultural differences. Reaching out in love to help doesn’t mean we agree; it just means we love and recognize another human in need.
That is next-level love.
