Love is such a compelling and encompassing word. It can be so monumental that we’re either hesitant to say it or we overuse it. Too often, love has been used as an intensifier, an inducer, a seducer. In short, it’s been misused to lie or twist the truth (if you want to downplay it).
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (1 Corinthians 13:6)
Love is the true emotion that bursts forth, unable to be contained within the bounds of our being. It requires some expression from us because it is just that enormous. True abiding soul-deep love does not find happiness in the suffering of others.
This life we live is not easy, nor was it meant to be. A friend shared with me, “You can’t have a testimony if you haven’t been tested.” Truth isn’t meant to be mean and ugly. Test your words first:
• Are they edifying?
• Are they beneficial?
• Are they necessary?
We are here to love in truth (that doesn’t translate to meanness) and to make a difference in this world. Yes, sometimes the truth does hurt, but don’t seek to inflict pain. Love does win and there’s always an answer…we just need to find it.
