We are a nation rich in diversity, culture, and resources. We opened our borders to the poor, the broken, the persecuted, and the disenfranchised. We offer them hope and opportunities they don’t have in their home country. This is the foundation of our country. We are all immigrants, sans the indigenous people of the Americas—a shameful part of our history.
Not all immigrants to the colonies were fine, upstanding future citizens of this country. The British courts transported prisoners to some of the American colonies as punishment. Were they all terrible people or were some the poor, the marginalized that populate all cities and countries? Some also sought immigration through the appropriate process…and not all of them were upright citizens.
There’s never any guarantee in life. All we can do is our best to accept, not judge, each person at face value until such time as they prove otherwise. No one is perfect. (John 8:7)
