A quaint and old-fashioned word, but very descriptive: one who makes peace. The more elegant term would be diplomat. They’re similar, yet peacemaker sounds more straightforward and honest.
We need moderators in our lives and society, people who are able to see all sides of a situation and look for a solution that suits everyone. This does not mean the arbitrator doesn’t have an opinion. What it does mean is they have set aside their beliefs for the needs of the parties involved in the conflict. This willingness of the intermediary to remove their convictions and need for self-gain from the resolution requires strength of character and dedication to healing the relationship between the parties involved. (Matthew 5:9)
Be a peacemaker. Strife in our lives only promotes anger, distrust, and continued dissension. The healing has to begin somewhere.
