We seem to have a love-hate relationship with this life-giving weather occurrence. We appreciate the need for it to sustain our plants and fill water reservoirs; however, we resent the inconvenience of changed plans due to the conditions and excessive rainfall. You see the dilemma?
What if we just took time to appreciate what we have in this gift? Tomorrow the grass will be greener; trees and shrubs will display more buds and leaves. The sun seems brighter the day after it’s rained. It washes away the pollen collecting on surfaces. The slow, steady fall of rain can be hypnotic. As a child, my bedroom window overlooked the front porch roof—a metal roof. I still remember the sound of rain pinging on that metal roof. If you have a porch or an umbrella, step outside and appreciate this gift of rain.
This necessity of life can be a destructive force, but it’s also life-giving. Some areas of our world have experienced devastating downpours and need our help. We are citizens of the world. (Genesis 9:12-17)
