Boxes come in different shapes, sizes, and for different uses. We have specific ones for shipping, storage, organizing, and gifting. Idiomatically, we have boxes for people. We talk about “escaping the box” and “popping the lid on the box,” but do we know what the box is?
Boxes are used to confine items to a limited space until such time as it is open and the contents are removed. In the case of people, the box can confine one to family, partner, or societal expectations. We can even be responsible for our own confinement due to fear of failure of the unknown. You are not the same person today you were five, ten, or more years ago. You are constantly learning and maturing; the ideas and aspirations you had as a young adult may not be the same as you have today. Your experiences have shaped who you are. The storms in your life may cause your box to get wet. That’s not necessarily a problem because it’s much easier to break out of a wet box than a dry box. (Joshua 2:1-14)
You’re only as confined as you choose to be. Explore the options and the opportunities available to you.
